Nature's Gardens
For me, a truly beautiful garden is a wild flower meadow
or a wild flower wood. The hum of bees, intense and delicate
colours and tall whispering grass on a gentle breeze is the
garden of Eden in my Utopia.
Let's be honest. Nature is by far the best gardener. Nature
never fails to create perfection when left alone and in nature's
garden everything, every plant, every insect, every mammal,
reptile and bird serves a purpose and each species add their
own unique colour to the perfect beauty of the whole.
Did a poet ever write about a manicured lawn? Did a poet
ever descibe the magic and beauty of a hybrid plant? Did a
poet ever write about trimmed hedges or pruned wysteria? No.
Poets write about the beauty of a wild flower meadow and a
bluebell carpeted wood. Why is that, I wonder? Surely not
because they are more beautiful than manicured lawns? Surely
not. If that was the case, surely we wouldn't manicure our
lawns, would we?
Let us look to nature to be our only guide when considering
a garden environment. I would say leave the garden environment
completely to nature, but I do know the immense pleasure people
derive from pottering around in the garden and I am not wanting
to spoil that enjoyment, I simply request you allow nature
to make all the big, important decisions. Challlenge yourself
to work with nature. Let nature run wild, because when nature
scatters seeds a stunning vista is created.
