Gardening in Harmony with Nature

Gardening in harmony with nature requires thought and if you, like me, seek to encourage more wildlife in to the garden, then you will need to learn a little about the wildlife you wish to encourage. At last we are accepting the fact that mankind is but a part of nature and that nature is not the enemy of man, but nature will always make an enemy of any one or anything that tries to place limits on change, growth and natural evolution. It is essential that mankind learn to work in harmony with all life with whom we share this incredible planet Earth. Gardeners need to embrace the life forms and species they persist in regarding 'pests' and 'weeds'. For a gardener to attempt to eradicate any life form from a garden is, in my sincere opinion, a form of genocide. To consider any life form inferior to ourselves or to be of the opinion that we have some God given right to kill because a life form offends our eyes or is simply considered distasteful by a percentage of the population or 'experts' whom we believe are all knowing, is, in my most profound opinion, an evil we must eradicate from our very own selves! At the moment gardeners are perpetuating an evil persecution of life form and species with whom we share this planet. This persecution must stop now.

I remember chatting to a gardener once. She was picking caterpillars off a plant and grinding their bodies to pulp under the sole of her shoe. We were talking about a butterfly with wings spead on a plant nearby. "That's why I love gardening so," she gushed. "That butterfly is so beautiful. Nature's incredible, isn't it?" was her question to me as she picked off another caterpillar - that particular species of butterfly's offspring - and killed it with one brutal stamp of her foot! That gardener was ignorant and worst of all she was ignorant of her ignorance. That hypocrisy, that ignorance must stop and it must stop now. Recommend this website to all your friends and help put a stop to gardeners ignorance everywhere.
